Laurentian University has evolved over the past 40 years from a small liberal arts college to a multi-faculty university. Faculty and students maintain close relationships in a classroom environment that emphasizes individual attention. Laurentian serves a large sector of northeastern Ontario and the campus has a distinctively northern character. Students are active in winter sports, including Alpine and Nordic skiing and curling. Total enrollment: 6,350.
Location: Laurentian offers its students a unique academic structure and a diverse cultural environment. The university is located across a lake from Sudbury, an industrial city that offers many activities, movie theaters, and several large shopping centers. Toronto is 250 miles to the southeast.

Curriculum
Laurentian is officially a bilingual institution, one of three such institutions in Ontario. Twenty percent of the student population is Francophone. Many subjects in the arts and some in the sciences and professional schools offer instruction in both English and French. The Departments of Forensic Science at VCU and Laurentian have developed a program-specific exchange program. Students from VCU can spend a semester or a year at Laurentian and earn credit towards their Forensic Science degree. The list of course equivalencies is continually growing, and includes Core Forensic Science, Biology, and Chemistry courses, elective Forensic Science and Criminal Justice courses, and Track-Specific required courses for both Forensic Biology and Forensic Chemistry concentrations. Transfer of credit
Students must earn the equivalent of a C grade or higher in a given course to be eligible for transfer credit. Students are required to take the necessary steps to ensure that transcripts are received from the university upon return to VCU.
Academic calendar
Academic year: early September to late April; Semester 1: early September to December; Semester 2: early January to late April.
Language of Instruction

Courses in French: Anglophone students must complete 4 semesters of university level French courses to enroll in host courses marked "FREN". Francophone students may enroll in "FRAN" courses.
Housing and meals
Students are housed in double-occupancy rooms within a four-bedroom apartment with its own kitchen in a university residence hall. ISEP-Exchange students receive a weekly meal stipend.
Tuition and fees
Students will pay a program fee that is based on the cost of VCU tuition, housing and meals. This program fee changes each year, as costs at VCU increase. In the 2011-2012 academic year, the cost per semester of ISEP exchange is $10,300 which includes tuition, housing and meals at the host institution. Students are responsible for the cost of airfare, health insurance and spending money.
Travel Information
Students are responsible for making their own travel arrangements, including visas if required.
