Fudan University is located in Shanghai, China’s largest commercial and financial district. But the university is set within peaceful and appealing surroundings with close proximity to the Huangpu River, bustling shopping districts, marvelous architecture and numerous historical monuments.

Students must have at least a 2.75 GPA to apply and should be nominated by their respective department, with applications submitted to VCU Education Abroad by Oct. 1 for the spring semester. The exchange application form and other important information are available online.
Students must complete an application form for foreign students wishing to study at Fudan. This form must be printed, signed and given to the Education Abroad office along with an academic transcript, two academic references and a copy of the student’s passport. Applicants can pay the $150 application fee online and submit the confirmation printout or pay in person with cash, check or credit card.
Admissions decisions are made by Nov. 15 for the spring semester.

Curriculum
VCU students may participate in the Chinese language intensive program or the English elective program. Students who are fluent in Chinese may have additional options available. Courses include midterms and a two week exam period at the end of each semester, although some exams substitute essays or papers. Exchange students can choose to study for the spring semester or, with special permission, a full academic year.
Transfer of credit
Students must earn the equivalent of a C grade or higher in a given course to be eligible for transfer credit. Students are required to take the necessary steps to ensure that transcripts are received from the university upon return to VCU. The Overseas Students Exchange section of the Foreign Affairs office at Fudan will be responsible for the transcripts for exchange students.
Academic calendar
Spring semester: mid-February until mid-July
Students may study in the spring semester only, unless special permission is granted for the fall.
Housing
Students can apply for accommodations online in the international student’s dorm building. University-administered housing is not guaranteed. There are also numerous apartments within walking distance of campus. The Fudan office will do its best to help students find private housing if university housing is not available.
Tuition and fees
Tuition for VCU students is based on VCU tuition and fees. Room and board are paid directly to Fudan. Cafeteria meal plans are available.
Orientation
Orientation will be held during the first week of the semester. Students will have a two-hour orientation on Fudan and campus life, a campus tour and dinner. Students will also have a Chinese language exam.
Travel information
Students are responsible for making their own travel arrangements, including transportation from the airport to Fudan University. Directions from the airport to the university will be included in the admissions package. Students are responsible for obtaining a student visa. When you receive the application package, you should go to the consulate and apply for a student visa with the second form. Bring the second form with you when you come to Fudan.
