Frequently asked questions

When I apply for an I-20, why do I have to send original documents? Why can’t I scan them or fax them to your office to speed up the process?
U.S. Customs and Immigration Services (USCIS) requires us to accept original documents. It is against the law for us to issue an I-20 without them. Faxing or Emailing your application will not make the process go faster. We cannot do anything with your application until we receive the original documents.

When can I expect to receive my I-20?
The I-20 and acceptance packet should be sent one to two weeks after the office receives all of your application materials.

How do I prepare for the ELP placement test?
This test is meant to place students into the program. It is not necessary to study for it. However, academically-accepted students who want to exit the test can use TOEFL preparation materials to practice.

When should I pay the $150 USD application fee?
As soon as possible! The $150 USD will reserve your seat for the test. If you do not pay, your seat will not be reserved and you risk being bumped from the list.

$150 USD is too much. Why is it so expensive?
The program has to make decisions about how many classes to offer and how many teachers to hire. We need the students who are signing up for the test to be serious about taking classes so that we can make informed decisions about the program.

When do I have to pay for my ELP classes?
New students will receive their bill on the day of their advising appointment to get their placement test results. They should come prepared to pay tuition at that time.
