GEO staff attend Korea International Portfolio Day
Staff members from VCU’s Global Education Office (GEO) teamed up with the VCU School of the Arts for The Korea International Portfolio Day held in Seoul, Korea in November. At the first time event, Korean high schoolers brought their art portfolios for review and discussion about admissions to VCU and other art schools around the world.

As a former VCU professor of archaeology and anthropology, she looks forward to filling a new need at the university.
VCU's first Global Ambassadors serve international students
Mohamed Ibrahim and Astrid Aniwa, VCU's first Global Ambassadors, know how it feels to be new students in a new culture surrounded by new people.
“When I first came to VCU, I faced a lot of hardships,” said Ibrahim, a junior from Egypt, Africa. “If someone was here to mentor me and provide the services that we ambassadors provide, that would have helped me to fulfill my potential.”
Tiranga brings India's culture to VCU
It’s not surprising that Tiranga, the student organization of Indian Nationals at VCU, was named the 2011 Best Overall Student Organization by the VCU Office for Student Organization Development.
The group thrives on its tremendous membership of nearly 325 students, made possible by its inclusive nature.
Iraqi students volunteer in Richmond's East End
"I have a best friend," said Malikah, a 10-year-old student at Peter Paul Development Center (PPDC) in Richmond's East End.
After only four meetings with Dlveen, Malikah clinged to her arm. Along with 24 other Iraqi students, Dlveen visited VCU for the month of July as a part of the Iraqi Young Leaders Exchange Program (IYLEP), a program funded by the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad.

Awer Bul
The four-bedroom apartment that Awer Bul shares with three other VCU students in Ackell Hall has a kitchen, a living room, a dining room, two bathrooms and a full array of appliances — refrigerator, electric range, dishwasher, garbage disposal, washer and dryer. "It's got everything you need," he said.
In a corner of the living room, near a window overlooking the courtyard, Bul has appointed a small space where he can paint, a sort of informal in-home studio, and the tranquil apartment represents an idyllic contrast to the pieces that he creates there.
Betsy Schnibbe
Betsy Schnibbe joined the “VCU in Peru” program in 2007. She said the drawing and art history program “had a huge impact on my life.”
One of the highlights was a four-day hike along the Inca Trail that required both mental and physical strength.

When University of Guadalajara student Maria Espinosa Vega decided she was ready to experience more independence, practice her English and learn firsthand about another culture, she looked at her options for spending a semester at a U.S. university.
The VCU School of Engineering fit the bill with a biomedical engineering program similar in structure and course work to UdeG, a VCU international partnership university.
